Northeastern states of the country started protests after the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019 was tabled in Lok Sabha. After the bill was cleared by both houses of the Parliament and got President’s nod becoming Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 (CAA), several other states and students of universities have joined the protests for reasons of their own. Here we explain what CAA is and why people are protesting against it.
